Twin adds to Jackson Inlet stable

Twin Mining (TWG-T) has staked 32 new claims covering some potential kimberlite targets on the Brodeur Peninsula of Baffin Island in Nunavut.

The claims cover a total of 334 sq. km within 100 km north and south of Twin’s Freightrain pipe, and bring to 989 sq. km Twin’s landholdings in the area.

The company is considering partnering up with other companies to explore the new claims. It will retain a 100% interest in its other 655 sq. km worth of claims in the area.

Twin says the claims cover regional structures similar to those believed to control the Freightrain and Cargo1 pipes.

Recently, Twin announced that mini-bulk kimberlite samples derived from six sites across the surface expression of Freightrain yielded an assortment of gem-quality diamonds, including a small proportion of coloured stones. The implied average grade came in at just 0.2 carat per tonne.

Last year, a delineation drilling program on Freightrain failed to define the body. Fifteen of 17 holes managed to cut just 314 metres of kimberlite.

This summer, 228.19 tonnes of blasted kimberlite from six sites returned a total of 869 diamonds running at least 0.8-mm in one dimension. The parcel weighed in at 46.21 carats. The largest stone ran 7.1 by 6.27 by 3.94 mm. The gem-quality diamond weighs 1.56 carats.

Freightrain outcrops as a series of 16 weathered kimberlite showings interspersed with predominant limestone bocks or rafts within a 500-metre-diameter area.

Cargo 1 lies 4.2 km northeast of Freightrain. Late last year, a 5-metre section of drill core weighing 18.6 kg returned seven micros and four macros. The largest stone, described as a fragment, measured 2.05 by 1.48 by 1.12 mm. Cargo 1 has a magnetic expression measuring 140 metres in diameter.

Both, Freightrain and Cargo1 are situated in the 30-km-long Freightrain corridor, which is also home to another nine magnetic anomalies slated for drilling this year. All of the corridor’s known pipes are found at the intersection of regional deep-seated structures.
