Barker Minerals begins drill program

Barker Minerals (BML-V) has begun a drill program to test the company’s Frank Creek and Ace volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) projects on the company’s wholly owned property in the historic Cariboo mining district in central B.C.

Barker plans 15-20 diamond drill holes, reaching to depths of 100-150 metres, to test three targets.

Drilling began at Frank Creek, 95 km northeast of Williams Lake, one of several targets in a 640-sq.-km area, which is also home to the Ace and SCR VMS projects.Mineralization at Frank Creek is hosted by sedimentary, volcaniclastic and volcanic rocks.

The F-1 showing at Frank Creek was discovered by trenching in 1999. Follow-up trenching extended the potential strike length 425 metres. Mineralization comprises massive pyrite, sphalerite, galena, and chalcopyrite, with grab samples returning up to 8.1% zinc, 15.4% lead, 4.5% copper, and 20.5 oz. silver per tonne.

Barker believes that massive sulphide boulders been found 1.2 km west of the F-1 showing and 1.3 km north of the F-8 showing come from a proximal source. Drilling will target both showings.

Five other target areas lie 3 km to the south as well as east of the F-1 showing. Two of the target areas, F-2 and F-3, host coincident multi-element soil and ground geophysical anomalies.

The F-4 target hosts the Big Gulp showing, which comprises sulphide-rich lenses in metamorphosed, fine-grained volcaniclastic rocks. Grab sampling yielded up to 8.1% zinc.

Further trenching, mapping, stream sediment sampling, and ground geophysical surveying are planned. Drilling will follow.
