Gossan drills Bird River (March 27, 2003)

Gossan Resources (GSS-V) has embarked on a 1,250-metre diamond drilling program over the Chrome Extension and Peterson blocks on the prospective Bird River sill complex in southeastern Manitoba.

The Chrome Extension, a severely faulted portion of the Bird River sill, is home to several coincident magnetic and electromagnetic anomalies. Immediately along strike to the south, the Chrome block hosts 5.5 million tonnes grading 6.9% chromite. Some surface showings in the area have returned up to 2.5 grams combined platinum-palladium.

Gossan recently staked two mining claims totalling about 2 sq. km along a 3-km strike length of the Bird River Sill. The claims cover a structural block known as the National Ledin. Gossan now holds more than 13 km of the Bird River sill on its 15 sq. km of land in the area.

Locally, the intrusive body is 500-600 metres thick and consists of a lower ultramafic series, an overlying transition series, and a upper mafic series.
