Hucamp cuts Ni-PGE at Dundonald

Initial results from a recently completed 13-hole, 2,043-metre drill program by Hucamp Mines (YHU-V) indicate the presence of a zone of high-grade nickel-platinum-palladium mineralization on the Dundonald portion of the Alexo-Dundonald property near Timmins, Ont.

Four holes were collared on two sections (25 metres apart) beneath the known surface exposures of the Dundonald Beach high-grade nickel-PGE mineralization. The holes aimed to confirm high-grade results obtained by Falconbridge (FL-T) in the 1960s and 1970s. Falco’s hole 1965-29 cut an 8.8-metre section that assayed 5.87% nickel, including 3 metres of 12.8% nickel (there was no PGE assay included).

The best result from Hucamp’s drilling came in hole 9, which cut semi-massive and massive sulphides at the basal contact of a thick komatiitic peridotite flow. It returned 2.15 metres grading 10.15% nickel, 0.42% copper, 0.17% cobalt and 1.67 grams combined platinum and palladium (Pt+Pd). The high-grade interval came in a larger 7.65-metre zone averaging 3.3% nickel, 0.13% copper, 0.06% cobalt and 0.61 grams Pt+Pd. The hole is Hucamp’s best nickel intersection on the property to date.

Other highlights include hole 7, which returned 0.7 metre grading 2.76% nickel, 0.09% copper, 0.06% cobalt and 0.65 gram Pt+Pd. Hole 8 yielded 1.25 metres of 2.2% nickel, 0.06% copper, 0.06% cobalt and 0.74 gram Pt+Pd.

The latest holes cut two separate horizons of high-grade sulphides that are associated with komatiitic peridotite flows. Several additional zones of lower-grade disseminated mineralization were also intersected in each hole. Assays for the remaining samples are expected in June.

Falco’s previous drilling identified the Dundonald South zone over some 800 metres of strike. Further drilling is required to outline the full extent of the high-grade sulphide zones.

Six holes tested peripheral geophysical targets elsewhere on the Dundonald property and failed to cut economic nickel-sulphide mineralization. In May and June, Hucamp plans to probe the holes, using a down-hole pulse electromagnetic system, to test for any more massive, off-hole sulphide concentrations.

Under option deals from Falconbridge and Outokumpu, Hucamp can earn 65% interests in Dundonald and the adjoining Alexo property by spending $8.8 million over several years. Both properties have been explored, mainly for copper and nickel.
