Junior Iriana Resources (IR-T) reports encouraging results from a lithogeochemical sampling program on its Greer Lake tantalum-lithium-cesium property in southeastern Manitoba.
Seventy-four rock samples were collected this summer from basalt outcrops on 25-to-100-metre spacings. Analysis for cesium, rubidium and lithium confirmed the dimensions of a previously outlined lithium anomaly measuring 800 metres by 2.5 km. Also defined within the larger anomaly is a zone of elevated values measuring 200 metres by 1.5 km. The best values from that area ran 328 grams lithium, 132 grams cesium and 1,070 grams rubidium per tonne.
Background values in mafic volcanics in the Precambrian shield are 15-20 grams lithium, 2-to-3 grams cesium, and 30-90 grams rubidium. In the Greer field lithium backgrounds appear to be about the same, but cesium and rubidium background values appear to be lower.
Iriana believes the results suggest the existence of enriched pegmatites at depth, and the company plans additional statistical analyses and structural studies to further define rare-metal-pegmatite drill targets for early 2002.
