Cline Mining firms up coal resource

Vancouver – On the heels of last week’s protest visit by Montana state’s senator, Cline Mining (CMK-V) has updated the resources at its Lodgepole coal property in the Crowsnest coalfield of southeastern British Columbia, in accordance with NI 43-101 reporting standards. The property is situated some 33 km by road, southwest of Elk Valley Coal’s Coal Mountain mine, and 42 km from CP Rail’s Morrissey siding, south of Fernie.

Calgary-based, GR Technical Services estimates Lodgepole contains 82.5 million tonnes of surface mineable, low volatile coal, comprising 49.6 million tonnes measured, 22.5 million tonnes indicated, with another 10.4 million tonnes inferred resources. The property contains both pulverized injection coal and coking coal.

GR Tech identified and classified Lodgepole’s resources with the help of a Geological Survey of Canada paper. They followed that with a review of Crowsnest Resources/Shell Canada and Fording Coal’s data from 36 historic drill holes and bulk samples from four adits.

The resources are based on a cut-off stripping ratio of 6 bank cubic metres of waste, per bank cubic metre of in-situ raw coal. A minimum mining thickness of 0.3 metres was used for coal and rock partings.

The Lodgepole area is underlain by coal-bearing Kootenay Formation strata in the Rocky mountains. Twelve coal zones occur within the boundaries of the mine plan.

GR Tech recommends a 51-hole drill program and an adit to provide a better sense of the quality of the coal and recommends proceeding to the feasibility stage at Lodgepole.

Montana residents are concerned over water quality issues stemming from potential mining in the headwaters of the Flathead River which flows south into Montana’s Glacier National Park.

Senator Max Baucus, went to Fernie last week to demonstrate against Cline’s mine proposal.
