Wesdome cutting significant gold at Kiena

Underground drilling has firmed up the gold resource of the VC zone at Wesdome Gold Mines‘ (WDG-T) Kiena mine property, 10 km west of Val d’Or, Que.

The easternmost section (13230E) was tested by five fanned holes. Drill results include a 3.7-metre intercept grading 21.5 grams gold per tonne. When gold is cut to 34.28 grams, the grade is 15.1 grams gold per tonne.

Three other holes cut intervals from 3.3-4 metres wide grading 3-8.25 grams gold per tonne. A couple of these holes also cut narrower zones with higher grade, specifically 0.9-metre grading 15.7 grams gold and 1.4 metres grading 10.7 grams gold.

The hole which was drilled at the steepest angle cut three zones from 0.7-1 metre wide grading 1.65-3.6 grams gold per tonne.

All widths are calculated true widths.

Five holes were drilled 15 metres west of this; two of these cut 12.5-12.7-metre intervals grading 7.7 grams gold and 13.4 grams gold per tonne, respectively. The latter grade becomes 9.5 grams gold when gold is cut to 34.28 grams. The steepest hole cut six metres grading 2.3 grams gold.

Fifteen metres farther west, on section 13200E, six fanned holes tested the zone. Three of these, cut intervals grading 15.1-18.7 grams gold over 0.7-1.9 metres. In addition, five of the six holes cut wider zones (from 4-11 metres wide) grading as high as 6-8.9 grams gold per tonne. The steepest hole cut four intervals grading 3-5.3 grams gold over 1-2.3 metres.

The VC zone comprises at least three en-echelon zones. It has been traced 60 metres along strike and down dip for about 500 metres. An exploration drift is being extended to the west so that drilling can test the zone farther along strike in that direction.

Two horizontal holes, drilled from the 520-metre level, tested an area east of the 388 zone. These cut from 3.5-6 grams gold over true widths of 3-5.5 metres. The mineralization was cut at 200 metres and 300 metres from the 388 zone.

In both the 388 zone and the areas to the east, gold is associated with disseminated pyrite within an altered diorite sill. The 388 zone is known to host a measured and indicated resource of 230,200 tonnes grading 6 grams gold per tonne, using a 3 grams gold per tonne cutoff and a minimum mining width of 1.8 metres.
