Vancouver – Initial processing of the 47-tonne mini-bulk sample taken from Hudson Resources‘ (HUD-V, HUDRF-O) Garnet Lake kimberlite dike in western Greenland has yielded a 2.4-carat diamond.
The stone is described an off-white, translucent dodecahedral twinned with inclusions and is one of 236 diamonds recovered in initial picking of the concentrate with 12 coming in larger than 0.1 carat.
“These early results clearly demonstrate the potential for the Garnet Lake dike to host large diamonds,” stated Hudson president James Tuer.
Sorting of the batch show 128 described as white, 73 as off-white, 3 yellow, 22 grey, 3 as brown and 7 are another colour.
The recovery is only from the initial crushing phase of minus-6 mm with the kimberlite sample subsequently re-crushed to a minus-3 mm size through the high-pressure grinding rollers. The material is then put through a dense media separation (DMS) circuit with the concentrate then run through X-ray sorting and a grease table prior to final picking.
Shares of Hudson rallied as much as 50% on news of the large stone, closing up 27 at $1.90 on trading volume of more than 1.8 million.
