Encouraged by results from the Rainbow property in southern British Columbia, partners Teck (TSE) and Getchell Resources (VSE) will undertake a third phase of drilling.
The property is a few kilometres from Teck’s Afton mine and mill, south of Kamloops. The company holds a 70% stake in the project, with the remainder held by Getchell.
A new zone of copper mineralization, the Rainbow No. 22, has been encountered southeast of the known Rainbow No. 2 structure. The two zones are separated by a 50-metre-wide, barren dyke.
Drill results from the new zone include: 66 metres grading 0.88% copper and 0.23 gram gold per ton in hole 95-22; 30 metres of 0.42% copper and 0.06 gram gold in 95-25; and 72 metres of 0.36% copper and 0.16 gram gold in 95-27.
The third phase will entail drilling 10 holes to test the near-surface potential of the No. 22 zone.
The No. 2 zone is estimated to contain 14 million tonnes grading 0.5% copper to a depth of 300 metres.
