Drill results from the Harmony gold project in British Columbia’s Queen Charlotte Islands continue to impress owner Misty Mountain Gold (MGL-T).
Misty is systematically drilling the Specogna deposit on a 20-by-20-metre grid pattern, with all holes being drilled toward the southeast. The highlights of new results received from holes 96-50 through 96-70 include 267 ft. grading 0.126 oz. gold per ton, 124 ft. grading 0.115 oz., 130 ft.
grading 0.11 oz. and 107 ft. grading 0.102 oz. gold per ton.
Previous operators outlined a large, potentially open-pit, low-grade resource, but development was stalled as a result of environmental concerns, particularly relating to acid drainage. Reserves minable by open-pit methods were last estimated to exceed 31 million tonnes grading 2.19 grams gold.
By contrast, Misty Mountain Gold, is attempting to intersect a series of en echelon, steeply dipping, high-grade zones within the deposit, with the goal of developing an underground mine.
Drilling will continue until the first quarter of 1997. In addition, metallurgical and environmental studies are under way in preparation for future feasibility studies.
