By year-end, Nevsun Resources (NSU-T) plans to have spent an additional US$2 million on its 90%-owned Tabakoto gold project in the Kenieba region of Western Mali.
Ongoing drilling will continue to test the Main zone at depth, as well as selected cross-structures and some of the stronger parallel geophysical anomalies.
The Main zone, a north-south-trending, porphyritic monzonite dyke, has been drill tested over a strike length of 1,850 metres and to a vertical depth of 200 metres.
Geophysical work suggests the structure extends farther to the south and at depth. Numerous cross-structures are interpreted to intersect the zone, and preliminary drilling suggests the potential for increased grade where the structures cut across the zone.
A parallel geophysical anomaly, coinciding with a soil geochemical anomaly, has been identified 1 km east of the Main zone. Nevsun plans to drill at least two holes to test the new eastern anomaly.
To date, 105 holes have been drilled at the Tabakoto project. Nevsun recently announced results from 15 holes, up to hole 84. The holes intersected multiple intervals of mineralization ranging in grade from 0.03 oz. gold per ton over 9.8 ft. to 25.62 oz. over 3.3 ft.
Among the thicker intervals were: 45.8 ft. of 0.52 oz. in hole 80; 18 ft. of 0.31 oz. and 39.2 ft. of 0.09 oz. in hole 77; 32.7 ft. of 0.19 oz. in hole 78; 29.4 ft. of 0.24 oz. in hole 79; 29.4 ft. of 0.14 oz. in hole 83; 26.2 ft. of 0.03 oz. and 16.4 ft. of 0.13 oz. in hole 73; 14.7 ft. of 0.22 oz. in hole 74; and 13.1 ft. of 0.22 oz. and 6.5 ft. of 0.49 oz. in hole 75.
A 140.6-ft. interval grading 0.12 oz. in hole 80 is interpreted by Nevsun as an oblique intercept in a cross-structure. Assays for holes 85-105 are not expected until year-end.
Elsewhere, at the 90%-owned Kubi project in Ghana, Nevsun has three drill rigs continuing to test the Main zone at depth, as well as the new garnet zones to the west. A preliminary resource calculation is expected to be completed by mid-November.
