With two exploration programs already under way in Chile, Yamana Resources (YRI-T) has decided to launch a third.
The work will focus on a 84-sq.-km land package in the northern province of Antofagasta, which is deemed prospective for copper mineralization. Drilling will begin once geophysical targets have been identified.
Farther to the south, in the gold belt known as El Indio, Yamana will explore five concessions: Azul, Diablo, Manila, Coipa and Arrieros.
Already, significant gold and copper anomalies have been found on three of the four concessions, with the Arrieros property returning the best sample: 2 grams gold per tonne, 0.6% zinc and 0.22% copper.
The program will include trenching and the removal of rock screen covering geochemical anomalies, as well as induced-polarization and magnetometer surveys.
Meanwhile, in southern Chile’s Tierra del Fuego territory, Yamana is preparing to start a reconnaissance program to explore for massive sulphide and precious metals mineralization.
