A 19-hole drill program at the Asuadai prospect in Ghana has outlined potentially economic mineralization for joint-Venture partners Golden Knight Resources (GKR-T) and Leo Shield Exploration.
The 1,512-Metre reverse-circulation program tested 400 metres of the strike length of a mineralized shear zone in the Edubia area of the Oda River concession.
The prospect is 4 km east of the Abore North zone, where the Manso Nkwanta joint venture recently announced an indicated and inferred resource of 15 million tonnes of oxidized and unoxidized resources grading 1.24 grams gold per tonne, equivalent to 597,800 contained ounces.
In the Edubia area, the total strike length of anomalies associated with artisanal workings and gold soil geochemical anomalies is more than 5 km.
Drilling at Asuadai outlined a series of steeply dipping veins of variable grade and thickness.
Seventeen of the 19 holes returned gold values greater than 1 gram per tonne.
Highlights include: hole 2, which assayed 3.66 grams over 8 metres and 2.47 grams over 7 metres; hole 11, which returned 4.42 grams over 4 metres; and hole 15, which included 2.68 grams over 3 metres and 2.05 grams over 16 metres.
The highest-grade intercepts came from hole 6, which included a 3-Metre section grading 5.17 grams gold, and hole 16, which included 3 metres of 7.4 grams gold.
In 1997, the joint venture plans to spend $4.8 million on the 73.4-sq. km concession. Another $3.4 million is earmarked for other joint-Venture projects in Ghana. Golden Knight is the project operator.
The Manso Nkwanta joint venture has an 85% interest in Oda River; the government of the West African nation holds 10%, and a private Ghanaian company owns the remainder.
