CIM plans copper tour

The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum will host a week-long field trip to the copper mines of southern Arizona and northern Mexico from Oct. 19 to 26.

The tour will afford participants insight into the region’s deposits, geology, mining methods and processing techniques.

Copper mines scheduled to be visited include: the Florence and San Manuel-Kalamazoo of Broken Hill Proprietary; the Miami and Sierrita of Cyprus Amax Minerals; the Ray and Mission of Asarco; and AMT International Mining’s Copper Creek.

Organizers are also planning a tour of Geomaque Explorations’ San Francisco mine, a heap-leach gold producer in Mexico’s Sonora state.
