Election time is when promises are a dime a dozen and politicians dangle the proverbial carrot to attract as many voters as they can on the promise of a free snack. Prior to nibbling, one should look beyond the vegetable and satisfy oneself that the gardener has a green thumb and is not a novice who used plenty of fertilizer.
As we view the political scene of producers who want to tickle our palates with election giveaways, there are three political gardeners in Ontario who want to fill our cupboards with booty from their gardens: namely the present master Mike Harris, with Dalton McGuinty and Howard Hampton trying to unseed him.
While there may have been traces of blight on Mike Harris’ last harvest, one can’t deny that, on the whole, the product was not hard to digest. The new political garden has already been put to seed in Mike Harris’ product flyer, and we know what to expect. It’s up to the other two to come forth with their plant selection for the upcoming growing season. It is one thing to criticize the current gardener for his past crop, but another thing to produce an equal product that will be easy for us to digest. We can’t settle for anything less.
