Agnico funds expansion

The planned expansion of the LaRonde gold-copper mine in northwestern Quebec moved one step closer to reality recently, with Agnico-Eagle Mines (AGE-T) entering into a revolving bank facility with Barclays Bank and Deustche Bank.

The US$100-million, 8-year financing will be secured by a first charge on the LaRonde mine, and a portion of the money will be used to expand the mine to 5,000 tons per day.

The banks have completed due diligence, and the first tranche will be US$75 million.
