WMC takes flight in Quebec

An airborne electromagnetic survey flown by WMC over an area of northeastern Quebec reveals several promising anomalies that the Australian major will follow up with ground geophysics.

WMC has been exploring the area for nickel mineralization over the past two years.

Last fall, the major submitted 35 applications for exploration licences covering 13,000 sq. km south of Ungava Bay. The company has been exploring along the western margin of Rae Province, east of the Labrador Trough. Work in 2000 included a regional airborne magnetic survey, geological mapping and geochemical sampling.

So far, WMC has discovered four nickel-bearing gossans and generated some interesting nickel sulphide targets.

At WMC’s annual meeting in April, Chief Executive Officer Hugh Morgan told shareholders that the company had identified some large targets at the Quebec 7 project.

“We are encouraged by the size of the anomalies and surface expressions of nickel and copper sulphides,” he said.
