BC students compete at CIM event

Vancouver — Mining students in British Columbia will compete for the coveted Turnbull Cup on Feb. 28 at the awards dinner of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (Vancouver branch).

Several scholarships and student awards will be presented at the event, to be held at the Sandman Hotel in Vancouver.

Students from the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia Institute of Technology, Douglas College and Capilano College will be participating.

The guest speaker will be Michael Lipkewich, senior vice-president of mining at Teck Cominco. He will discuss the design, construction and commissioning of the Antamina mine in Peru.
