WHAT’S NEW New Pipe Elbow

Scarborough, Ont.-based Mecorsys Inc. has designed and tested a pipe elbow that reduces wear and saves energy when pumping abrasive slurries.

A unique vortex chamber creates a self-renewing, slowly rotating “soft plug” of fluid which deflects the main flow at the bend in the elbow. The elb ow reduces turbulence thus reducing pressure and velocity losses.

Vortice E-ll, as the elbow is called, has been tested using plastic pellets and resins, silica lime, fly ash, condensate, wood chip grains, cement and coke.
