As part of an on-going program to establish a Centre of Excellence i n surface mining in Alberta, canmet has helped launch a new technical mining journal.
The first issue of International Journal of Surface Mining will appear in June, 1987, at the 13th World Mining Congress to be held in Sweden. It will be published by A. A. Balkema of Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The aim of the journal will be to promote timely, and cost effective dissemination of technical information on all aspects of open pit technology, according to the journal’s editor Dr Raj K. Singhal, who is also the group leader of advance mine technology at the Coal Research Labs in Devon, Alta.
Papers covering a wide range of subjects dealing with open pit technology will be considered by three members of the journal’s advisory board. They are Professor J. Elbrond of Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal, Dr K. Fytas of Laval University and Professor J. Gozon of Ohio State University.
