Buying coins? Check premium

Thinking of buying gold bullion coins? Then don’t forget to look at the premium you have to pay. That’s the advice contained in a recent release titled Dateline: Canada, in which Canadian Maple Leaf coins are touted as one of the best buys.

The premium on the Maple Leaf coin (purity of .9999) is listed at 3.75%, the Australian Nugget (purity of .9999) at 5%, and the American Eagle (purity of .9167) at 6%. The South African Krugerrand carries little or no premium, but many dealers apparently are no longer selling them.
