Warfare over the billion dollar Hemlo, Ont., gold discoveries is far from over. Another combatant has entered the fray. Scintilore Explorations, a Toronto Stock Exchange-listed junior exploration company has filed an action with the Supreme Court of Ontario claiming all the benefits and proceeds accrued to John Larche and Donald McKinnon from the Hemlo mines.
Also named in the suit are Teck Corp., International Corona Resources and Hemlo Gold Mines. The latter companies were also added as defendants in order to ensure that Scintilore gets all the proceeds being paid by the companies to Messrs. Larche and McKinnon, Peter Hayden, counsel with McDonald, Hayden tells The Northern Miner. The law firm is representing Scintilore.
Messrs. Larche and McKinnon were the original stakers of the Hemlo claims and became multi-millionaires after the properties were vended and placed into production. Before the Scintilore action, Lac Minerals was successfully sued by International Corona over the Page-Williams mine — the largest gold mine in the camp and potentially the largest in Canada. The Lac-Corona suit is under appeal and a decison is expected in the near future. No date has been set by the court for the Scintilore suit.
Company President T. H. Polisuk refused to comment on the action as did the company’s attorneys.
