Metal Snips (May 11, 1987)

Two American firms, A-Mark Precious Metals and Manfra Tordella and Brookes, have become official distributors of the Isle of Man’s platinum Noble bullion coins. Introduced in 1983, the coins are 99.95% pure platinum; in the first year of production more than 100,000 were sold.

Alcan Aluminum of Montreal is expected to announce its decision this summer on construction of a new smelter in Laterriere, located about 200 km north of Quebec City. Weak aluminum prices led the company to postpone the project indefinitely in 1985.
