Spirit Lake Explorations (ME) is outlining tonnage at its Edwards gold project, 30 miles northeast of Wawa, Ont. Located immediately east of the operating Kremzar gold mine, operated by Canamax Resources, the Edwards claims are the site of a major 48,000-ft drill campaign. The latest phase is budgeted at $1.2 million, Spirit Lake director Laurence Stephenson told The Northern Miner.
The program has defined two zones of gold mineralization hosting a drill-indicated reserve of 190,288 tons grading 0.35 oz gold per ton. This is a preliminary in-house estimate calculated by Stephenson who also acts as a consultant to the company.
In the Edwards zone, which was partially developed by a shaft to a depth of 300 ft, drilling has identified three en-echelon zones ranging in width from 1 ft-28 ft. Striking subparallel and south of the Edwards zone is the Spirit zone which also hosts three to four quartz veins.
Some of the better drill results from the Spirit zone include 5 ft grading 0.24 oz gold per ton and 25.7 ft assaying 0.54 oz gold per ton. Drilling has intersected gold mineralization to a depth of 550 ft and along strike for 500 ft. Three additional holes will probe for extensions at depth.
On the Edwards zone, the strike has been tested for 350 ft and at depth. Drill holes have cut gold values at 600 ft and 750 ft. The best deep sections include 11.6 ft grading 0.464 oz gold and 8.5 ft assaying 0.446 oz gold per ton.
The current program will be completed by the end of February, 1989. Upon completion, the company plans to carry out a formal reserve estimate, Stephenson says. Also, Spirit will consider shaft dewatering and an underground exploration program.
Spirit Lake, which holds a 100% interest in the property, is well funded with flow through commitments for the drill program and more than $1 million in its treasury.
