The company says peat from northern Ontario is currently being processed in preparation for thermal drying. The province’s electrical utility is the company’s largest potential customer.
The junior company has attracted the attention of Inco Ltd. (TSE) and Corona Corp. (TSE), which are lending financial and technical assistance. The Ontario government has also provided a grant of $172,000.
The current program, which will cost an estimated $575,000, involves engineering studies, laboratory tests and follow-up testing on commercial equipment.
About $1.4 million was spent on phase one of the project, involving preliminary market and site analyses, acquisition of quarry and work permits, and assessment of peat- processing technologies.
The company says the next phase will involve the design and planning of a pilot plant in the Thunder Bay area.
