Fluor awarded $180-million HudBay contract

Fluor Daniel has secured a $180-million contract to upgrade Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting’s (TSE) processing operations at Flin Flon, Man.

The contractor’s mining and metallurgical wing, Fluor Daniel Wright, will install a state-of-the-art Noranda reactor in the copper smelter and design and install new zinc extraction facilities.

The project will allow Hudson Bay to meet or surpass environmental standards at its 70-year-old mine and processing complex.

Engineering is under way in Vancouver with construction scheduled for completion in 1993.
