Diamonds being sought in Guyana

Diamonds were first uncovered in the South American country of Guyana in 1887 and, according to Golden Star Resources (TSE), are found in some of the same areas that are being mined for gold (although the diamonds are not as widespread as the gold mineralization).

Methods for recovering diamonds include hydraulic mining, suction dredges and excavating and panning by hand.
