Arimetco plans Zonia production

Heap leaching and solvent extraction-electrowinning (SX-EW) is under consideration by Arimetco International (TSE) for a recently acquired copper property in Arizona.

The company has leased the 1,200-acre Zonia property in Yavapai Cty. for a 3.5% net smelter return on all cathode copper produced. It will also pay a minimum advance royalty and has agreed to an annual exploration work commitment.

The property was in production between 1966 and 1975; 7.13 million tons of oxide ore grading 0.6% copper were leached for a recovery of 30 million lb. copper. Poor metal prices terminated the operation.

Arimetco’s assessment of the property indicates that 14 million tons of ore grading 0.4% copper remain in the pit. An estimated 55 million lb. copper also remain in the heaps.

The company will study the viability of placing a 35,000-lb.-per-day SX-EW plant on the property.
