O’Neill speaking at CIM

The Bank of Montreal’s Tim O’Neill will speak on “old industries in the new economy” when he addresses the Feb. 17 luncheon of the Toronto branch of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.

O’Neill will frame his remarks around the challenges the mining sector must face in adjusting to a continually changing economic environment. He will discuss the key fundamentals that influence the pace of economic recovery and the longer-term prospects for Canada, including specific implications for mining.

A native of Sydney, N.S., O’Neill is a former economics professor at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, N.S. He served as president of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council prior to joining the Bank of Montreal in 1993.
