Canyon free to put Briggs in production

Having consulted with Congress on the proposed California Desert Wilderness Bill, Canyon Resources (NASDAQ) can now proceed with development of its Briggs gold project.

It has been determined that the property, situated in the Panamint Mountains of eastern California, lies outside the present Wilderness Study Area and the proposed new Desert Wilderness area.

Canyon plans to develop the project as an open-pit, heap-leach mine, with federal and state approval expected within the next few months. A feasibility study calls for production of 75,000 oz. per year.
