Guest speaker at the Oct. 14 luncheon of the Toronto branch of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum will be Peter Steen, president of Homestake Mining of San Francisco.
Steen’s topic will be “maximizing shareholder wealth in the global marketplace.”
A native of South Africa and a graduate of the Camborne School of Mines in the United Kingdom, Steen was president of International Corona prior to that company’s merger in 1992 with Homestake, a million-ounce gold producer with 17 operating mines.
Steen, who arrived in Canada in 1968 and became mine superintendent at a Saskatchewan mine, is expected to draw on his working experience in North America in his explanation of what an investor might look for in choosing which shares to purchase.
