Diamond drilling is set to get under way this month on five separate gold properties owned by Queenston Mining (TSE) in northern Ontario. Work programs are starting on the company’s Upper Beaver and Vigrass properties near Kirkland Lake, as well as on its Baden and Flavelle properties in the Matachewan area and the Upper Denison property in the Mishibishu Lake area.
Queenston’s joint venture partner Pamorex Minerals (TSE) has already begun a 5-hole drill program on the Upper Beaver property near Kirkland Lake. That program is designed to follow up gold intersections of 0.25 oz. per ton across 38 ft. and 1.4 oz. gold across 21.2 ft. which lie in the vicinity of the old Upper Beaver mine workings. Pamorex will also be testing two base metal targets, one below the old workings and the second on recently optioned adjacent claims.

Elsewhere, Battle Mountain Canada, a subsidiary of Battle Mountain Gold (NYSE), plans an initial 2-hole program on Queenston’s Vigrass property near Swastika, Ont. Drilling will test airborne and geophysical conductors on that property. Further drilling is also planned on another group of claims optioned to Battle Mountain in Otto, Teck and Lebel twps. Detailed stripping and sampling uncovered a new gold zone on those claims last year.
Queenston will operate two drill programs in the Matachewan area where a 6-hole program will further test a 100-ft.-wide carbonate zone on the Baden property. Grab samples taken on the Baden group last year yielded grades up to 2.2 oz. gold while a shallow drill hole intersected 0.15 oz. across 5 ft.
On the company’s Flavelle Twp. property a 2-hole program will evaluate a showing which returned a high-grade assay of 18.7 oz. gold from a narrow quartz-carbonate vein system.
The company has also started an initial 13-hole drill program on its Upper Denison property in the Mishibishu Lake area of northwestern Ontario. This drilling will test gold anomalies on the 3,000-ft.- long Sprout vein system which returned assays up to 0.78 oz. from surface grab samples taken last year.
