A “top 10” world gold producer the past two years, Chile turned out more than 39 tonnes of the yellow metal in 1992, up 20% from the previous year.
Gold Fields Mineral Services of London, in its Gold 1993 publication, ranked Chile tenth in 1992 among the world’s nations. (In 1991, Chile ranked ninth.) The only other South American gold producer to rank in the “top 10” is Brazil.
