Merwin Bernstein, a Chile-based geological consultant and director of Orvana Minerals (TSE), boosted his stake in the aggressive junior exploration company at the end of June.
According to the Ontario Securities Commission’s OSC Bulletin, Bernstein (through Explorations Minerals NCE) privately bought 158,842 shares of Orvana at $1.50 per share to hold 178,842.
Orvana, which has been trading at close to $3 recently, has several projects on the go around the globe.
President Neil Hillhouse says the recent advance in the share price may be a belated reaction to a June 11 press release which outlined Orvana’s option to purchase a 14% interest in the San Bernardino property in Bolivia, a potentially bulk-minable gold deposit.
“Some analysts have finally recognized the significance of this,” he says. Other transactions completed in May or June are as follows:
American Barrick Resources (TSE) — Brian Meikle, officer, exercised 10,000 options at $7.53 and sold 10,000 shares at $28.50 to hold 30,080 shares and 40,000 options.
Breakwater Resources (TSE) — Harold Shipes, officer, sold 488,500 at an undisclosed price to hold 26.3 million.
Cambior (TSE) — Raynald Vezina, officer, exercised 18,000 options at $15.50 and sold 18,000 shares at $17.50 to hold 3,831 shares.
International Platinum (TSE) — Warren Ritchie, officer, bought 30,000 options at 9-18 cents and sold 30,000 shares at 18 cents to hold none. Madsen Gold (TSE) — James Morlock, officer and holder of more than 10%, bought 8,000 at 60-64 cents to hold 1.87 million.
Placer Dome (TSE) — Alexander Laird, officer, sold 6,201 at $24.00-$24.50 to hold none.
Sikaman Gold Resources (TSE) — Ella Crespo, officer, sold 70,000 privately at 44 cents to hold 23,970 directly and 17,627 in an RRSP.
Wharf Resources (TSE) — Frederick Knight, director, sold 18,800 at $11.50-12.38 to hold 1,000.
