Canchrome uncovers chromite values

Recently completing drilling programs on two chromite properties in Quebec’s Eastern Twps. was Canchrome Mines. On the Reed Belanger property, 22 holes representing 6,425 metres were drilled. The company says that while the chromite concentration is likely lower than 9% Cr/c2h/O/c3h/, at a cutoff value of 5%, it is probable that reserves will exceed three million tons grading more than 8%.

The company drilled 19 holes representing 3,153 metres at the Sterret property. The objective, it says, was to locate additional chromite mineralization beneath a previously mined zone; the company reports inconclusive results.

Canchrome is hoping to become a major supplier of chromite ore to a proposed $150-million ferro- chrome facility to be built at Becancour, Que., which would require a feed stock of about 200,000 tons of ore annually.

Principal shareholders of Canchrome, which is planning a public listing, are Gateford Resources (ASE), Corona (TSE), DCC Equities of Toronto and Corpormin Management of Montreal.
