As part of an option agreement with Teck (TSE), CDN-listed Atapa Minerals has completed in-depth exploration of a portion of the former’s property in Ontario’s Catherine and Pacaud twps.
The program took the form of magnetometer, very-low-frequency and induced-polarization surveys.
Atapa can earn a half interest in the 45-claim property by spending $500,000 on exploration. To date, it has spent about $250,000.
The property is separated into five blocks, numbered I, IA, II, III and IV. The surveys were completed over gold geochemical anomalies found in Block I and hosted in volcanic and intra-volcanic sediments.
Blocks IA and II are underlain by two southeast-trending komatiitic horizons which Atapa believes have the potential to host platinum group metals. Blocks II and IV, northeast of the other blocks, are underlain by the Catherine Fault, which is associated with several gold geochemical anomalies. Atapa will spend the remaining portion of the $500,000 on a drill program now under way.
In Skead Twp., east of the 5-block property in Catherine and Pacaud twps., Atapa has picked up a 33.3% carried interest in six claims. Initial drilling on the Skead ground intersected core that ran 58.15 grams gold per tonne over 0.49 metres.
Exploration on all of the properties will continue over the summer.
