Alberta-listed New Island Minerals has discovered a new gold zone on its Glover Island property in western Newfoundland.
The discovery, called the Lucky Smoke zone, is about 8 km north of the Lunch Pond South Extension and Kettle Pond South zones.
Initial prospecting has uncovered a highly pyritized, silicified felsite zone with a minimum strike length of 225 metres and a width of up to 100 metres. The zone is open along strike, and prospecting efforts are focusing on extending its strike length.
Although assay results are pending, pyrite concentrations in the zone are similar to those found in other zones, and several outcrops contain visible gold.
As a result of the discovery, New Island has staked an additional 138 claims, thereby increasing the property size to 619 claims.
