Idaho-based Sunshine Mining (NYSE) will open an exploration office in Lima, Peru.
The company has commissioned a study of Peruvian mine concentrates to determine their compatibility with Sunshine’s hydrometallurgical technology. Meanwhile, shareholders have approved a name change to Sunshine Mining and Refining. The change reflects the company’s increasing presence in the refining and metallurgical business as a custom refiner of silver concentrates, halides, sulphides, ashes and other materials, as well as a supplier of metallurgical technology.
Sunshine operates a mine and refinery in the Coeur d’Alene district in northern Idaho. Its Sunshine silver mine has operated for more than 100 years.
