An escalating labor dispute has forced Breakwater Resources (TSE) to suspend operations at its El Mochito mine in Honduras and place the lead-zinc operation on a care-and-maintenance basis.
The company said it has the support of the local union, but differences between this group and the national labor movement “caused an escalation in the dispute.” This involved an illegal road blockade and civil unrest in Las Vegas, a village adjacent to the mine.
Breakwater said the highest levels of the Honduran government are working to help resolve the problem.
