Copper recovery method studied

The Bureau of Mines in the U.S. is experimenting with a new in situ method of mining oxide copper from small, low-grade deposits.

Advantages over conventional open-pit and underground methods include better cost efficiency and improved worker health and safety. Also, it is less harmful to the environment.

The Bureau recently released a draft report on the mining method.
