Westar takes coal price cut

The contract price for metallurgical coal exports to Japan from the two mining operations owned by Westar Mining (TSE) in southeastern British Columbia has been cut by US50 cents per tonne.

The price cut will take effect April 1, 1992, bringing the “freight on board” price of the company’s metallurgical coal to US$51.30 per tonne. In recognition of the financial pressures on Westar, the Japanese Steel Industry has agreed to increase the contracted metallurgical coal tonnage for 1992 to a level yet to be finalized.
