U.S. REPORT Newmont Australia in BHP takeover

An affiliate of Newmont Mining (NYSE), Newmont Australia, recently acquired control of BHP Gold Mines from BHP’s parent, Broken Hill Pty. Co. of Australia, in a stock swap. Newmont Australia purchased a 54.9% interest in BHP. Projected 1991 gold production by the new company is more than 700,000 oz. Broken Hill retained a 23% interest in the new company.
