A second gold zone has been discovered on Golden Tag Resources’ (VSE) Verneuil Twp. property 160 km northeast of Val d’Or.
The Midrim zone was intersected in two holes drilled by project operator Freewest Resources (TSE).
Hole 49 cut the zone at a vertical depth of 183 ft. and returned 0.14 oz. gold per ton over 8 ft. Hole 54 cut the zone 140 ft. farther downdip at a vertical depth of 301 ft., returning an average grade of 0.14 oz. gold over 15.1 ft.
The zone is sheared and altered, with disseminated pyrite occurring adjacent to the footwall contact between a gabbro and an intermediate tuff. The structure is several hundred metres north of the gold discovery at the Toussaint zone, which, although visibly similar, is believed to be stratigraphically lower. Work on the Toussaint points to a drill-proven resource of 207,000 tons grading 0.21 oz. gold.
Further drilling is planned on both zones and on several similar structural and geophysical targets.
The 44-claim Verneuil property is owned 60% by Golden Tag and 40% by Consolidated Gold Hawk Resources (ASE), with Freewest holding an option to earn a half interest.
In addition to this property, Golden Tag holds interests varying from 30% to 100% in another 350 claims adjacent to, and surrounding, the two gold discoveries.
