THE DIAMOND PAGE –Messina launches bulk sampling

A 50,000-Tonne bulk-sampling operation is under way at the Liqhobong diamond project, 110 km northeast of Maseru, Lesotho.

Messina Diamond (MSC.U-T) recently completed a first phase of drilling which was designed to test two kimberlite pipes at the property in southern Africa.

A total of 96 diamonds (measuring more than 1 mm in size) was recovered from 4,163 kg of material from the Main pipe, whereas 159 diamonds were recovered from 2,162 kg of material from the satellite pipe. The grade of the Main pipe is estimated to be 49 carats per 100 tonnes, while that of the Satellite pipe is estimated at 139 carats per 100 tonnes.

The bulk sampling, along with a feasibility study, is expected to be completed later this year.

Messina has the exclusive right to explore and develop operations on the Liqhobong project. It can also acquire the Liqhobong Co-operative’s rights in the project, subject to a 10% net profits return royalty. During the option period, the Co-operative has the right to continue limited mining operations.
