The first hole drilled this year returned 13 ft. grading 0.77 oz. gold per ton plus 0.5% copper, from 814.5 to 827.5 ft.
The company will drill 30,000 metres this year, which should enable it to calculate a measured-resource estimate in and around the D and C zones.
A former open-pit mine, Copperstone produced roughly 500,000 oz. gold from ore grading an average of 0.1 oz. between 1987 and 1992. Recent work has focused on proving up sufficient resources to justify an underground, higher-grade gold mine.
A preliminary assessment by an independent consulting firm estimated that zones C and D contain an indicated resource of 892,000 tons grading 0.32 oz. gold, plus 1.9 million tons grading 0.35 oz. gold in the inferred category. American Bonanza is attempting to upgrade these calculations to meet National Instrument 43-101 standards.
