Drilling near the past-producing Cheminis mine near Virginiatown, Ont., junior NFX Gold (NFXG-C) has hit significant gold grades.
Three holes drilled from the 1,035-ft. level of the mine confirmed the existence of a previously unknown zone of mineralization. Dubbed the South Sediment zone, it is situated approximately 50 ft. south of, and parallel to, the North Sediment zone. In hole 8, NFX hit 27 ft. grading 0.2 oz. gold per ton and a 7.5-ft. interval grading 0.11 oz. Hole 5 hit 3.21 ft. of 0.06 oz., 9 ft. of 0.13 oz. and 4.05 ft. of 0.16 oz. Hole 11 hit 6.43 ft. of 0.14 oz.
and 20.5 ft. of 0.1 oz. All of the intersections are true widths.
NFX now plans to focus its drilling on the D zone, situated below the 1,035-ft. level, where past drilling appears to suggest there is a potentially significant resource. The D zone consists of sulphide-hosted mineralization similar to that found in the nearby Kerr-Addison mine.
Work is under way underground, where crews are drifting a 500-ft. crosscut south of the 1,035-ft. east level to prepare a drill station. Drilling is expected to begin late this month.
