Initial sample testing by the Botswanan prospecting arm of De Beers Consolidated Mines (DBRS-Q) has turned up macrodiamonds in three of four kimberlite pipes discovered in 1997 by TNK Resources (TNKR-C).
The richest sample came from TNK’s Bay pipe, which yielded one macrodiamond weighing 0.24 carat. A sample from a second pipe, the Wall pipe, yielded four macrodiamonds with an aggregate weight of 0.21 carat.
A single macrodiamond weighing 0.025 carat was recovered from a sample of the Diagonal pipe, and a sample from the King pipe did not contain any macrodiamonds.
De Beers is earning a 51% interest in Area 1 of TNK’s Gope property in Botswana by completing a bulk sampling program. It can increase its interest to 60% by funding a full feasibility study and by financing mine development.
TNK remains operator of exploration programs on Areas 2 and 3 at Gope, and will be contracting airborne magnetic surveys over areas marked out by previous indicator-mineral geochemical surveys. The four kimberlite pipes discovered on Area 1 were all located using magnetic surveying and indicator-mineral geochemistry.
