For the first time in the history of the event, Ontario plans to enter a team in the 1986 national mine rescue competition, scheduled for Sept 19-20 in Nanaimo, B.C.
The competition will test the skills of teams representing various provinces and territories, and is designed to encourage standard mine rescue practices and procedures across the country, as well as to ensure co-ordination of mine rescue assistance from a number of provinces if a major disaster should occur.
The Ontario team going to the national contest will consist of the captains of teams that competed in the Ontario provincial competition held in Sudbury in June.
Members of the squad are:
Larry Livingston, Lac Minerals, Macassa division, team Ontario captain; Gerald Labelle, Denison Mines, Elliot Lake, vice-captain; Myron McCormick, Falconbridge Ltd., No 3 man; Greg Hobson, Noranda Inc., Geco division, Manitouwadge, No 4 man; John Hagan, Campbell Red Lake Mines, Balmertown, No 5 man; Gerry Bilodeau, Kidd Creek Mines, Timmins, No 6 man; Brian MacKenzie, Domtar Chemicals, Goderich mine, Goderich, spare and judge; and Al Simpson, Inco Ltd., Sudbury, briefing officer.
The Ontario team will be under the direction of senior mine rescue officer Ron Eveson and mine rescue officers Charles Burton of Kirkland Lake and Jack Wallgren of Sudbury.
