Teck, Tundra drifting yielding strong results

Drifting by Teck Corp. on property held under option by Tundra Gold Mines near the former producing Lamaque mine, continues to yield encouraging results. Work from the 3,200-ft level of the Val d’Or, Que., area mine, has drifted for 305 ft along the 35 vein. Across an average width of 7.2 ft, the vein assayed 0.22 oz gold per ton. Uncut, the vein averaged 0.5 oz gold.

The 35 vein, Tundra says, is open along strike and is expected to continue for another 900 ft. A new vein, discovered last fall, is being examined by drifts off crosscuts on the 1,800-ft and 1,100-ft levels. Chip samples from 79.5 ft of drift averaged 0.245 oz gold per ton across a 9-ft width. Uncut values were 0.29 oz. Underground drilling is also in progress testing other sub-parallel veins.

The main objective of the underground program still remains the No 5 diorite plug. The drift on the 3,200-ft level is expected to enter the plug within 40 days, Tundra says. A majority of the gold production from the Lamaque mine came from diorite intrusives similar to the No 5 plug.

Golden Pond Resources, a company controlled by Tundra, has raised $500,000. The cash will fund more exploration on ground adjoining the Tundra and Teck option. Teck is also the project operator on the Golden Pond-optioned property. Both the Tundra and Golden Pond properties are near Teck’s former producing Lamaque gold mine, which is not subject to either option agreement.
