Contractor selected for ERG project

A management engineering group has been selected by ERG Resources, for the company’s $65-million gold tailings project near Timmins, Ont. Kilborn Ltd., an engineering consulting company, will complete an engineering study and will provide costing, design support and procurement services for the project — expected to be the second largest such gold recovery operation in the world. The largest gold tailings recovery program is in the Transvaal, South Africa.

ERG, which is an affiliate of Pamour Inc., will process up to one million tonnes of gold tailings per month from various tailings dumps in and around the Timmins mining camp. Construction of a reclamation system and gold recovery plan will begin in May. The operation will yield between 60,000-70,000 oz of gold per year over its projected 17-year life.

Construction of the facility is scheduled for completion in late 1988 with full production beginning in 1989, ERG says. Approximately 50 new jobs will be created in the Timmins area, peaking to 150 during the construction phase.
